Marvin Panch

Marvin was born May 28,1926 and lives in Oakland, California...He won 21 poles and 17 races in 216 career starts between 1951 and 1966...won once in '56 and six times in '57...won once more in '61 and '63, three times in '64, four times in '65 (including twice at Atlanta and once at Watkins Glen), then won his last race at Charlotte in May of 1966...his son, Richie, followed him into racing and was killed when a private plane crashed in 1985...retired after the 1966 season.

Benny Parsons

Benny was born July 12, 1941 and lives in Ellerbe, North Carolina...former cab driver in his adopted hometown of Detroit, Parsons came to NASCAR after winning the '68 and '69 ARCA championships, which made him ineligible to run for NASCAR's '70 rookie of the year award....undeterred, he won the '73 Winston Cup title for owner L.G. DeWitt, overcoming a vicious crash in the season finale at Rockingham to beat Cale Yarborough by 67 points....Parsons won 20 poles and 21 races in his 526-race career that extended from 1964 to 1988....retired after the 1988 season to continue with his career in radio and television.

Jim Paschal

Jim was born December 5, 1926 and lives in High Point, North Carolina...One of the most successful Winston Cup drivers in the '50s and '60s, he won 12 poles and 25 races, all but two of them (the Coca-Cola World 600s of '64 and '67) on short tracks... won five Grand American races in an AMC Javelin in 1969.

David Pearson

David was born December 22, 1934 and lives in Spartanburg, South Carolina...The driver Richard Petty called "the best there's ever been" did it all during his career...1960 rookie of the year, three time ('66,'68, and '69) series champion, 113 poles and 105 wins....was equally good on road courses (three wins at Riverside, one at Bridgehampton), superspeedways (48 victories) and short tracks (54 victories)....also won 23 dirt-track races....won at least once at almost every major venue, 10 times at Darlington, nine at Michigan, six at Daytona, five each at Bristol, dover, and Rockingham, four each at Charlotte and Atlanta, three each at Riverside and Talladega, and one each at Martinsville, Pocono, Nashville, and Ontario...'73 NASCAR driver of the year...retired during the 1986 season.

Lee Petty

Lee was born March 14, 1914 and lives in Randleman, North Carolina...won NASCAR championships in '54, '58, and '59, won the inaugural Daytona 500, and fathered seven-time champion and 200-time race winner Richard...Not a bad career...was among stock car racing's first stars, competing full time from 1949 thru the opening days of the 1961 season, when his car sailed over the Turn 4 wall at Daytona International Speedway, almost killing him....won 18 poles and 54 races in 427 career starts....best year was '59 when he won 11 of 42 races...last victory was at Jacksonville in November of 1960, which is listed in NASCAR's 1961 records....retired in 1964, but had run only nine races since a serious crash at Daytona Beach in 1961.

Richard Petty

Richard was born July,2,1937 and lives in Randleman, North Carolina...Seven time champion, winning the Cup in '64,'67,'71,'72,'74,'75,'and '79....won a record 126 poles and 200 races in a 1,184-race career that helped make the sport the attraction it is today....once won 10 straight races and 27 in a season (1967)....'74,'75, and '79 driver of the year and most popular driver in '62,'64,'68, and '70 then '74 thru '78....list of major victories is impressive: 15 each at North Wilkesboro and Martinsville; 11 at Rockingham; 10 at Daytona Beach; nine at Nashville; seven at Dover, six at Atlanta; five at Riverside; four each at Charlotte and Michigan; three each at College Station, Bristol,and Darlington; and two each at Pocono and Talladega....has been associated with STP since 1972....retired after the 1992 season.
